35 Years of Rich Industry Experience

Over an impressive span of 35 years, Graham has garnered a wide-ranging and eclectic mix of experience within the tourism sector. His journey has seen him excel in a variety of roles – from a bartender and server to a fishing guide, and from a social director to a more strategic position as a regional marketing professional. Graham has also led as a Regional Tourism Executive Director and honed his skills as a Product Development Specialist, showcasing his versatility and comprehensive understanding of the tourism landscape.

During an 18-year commitment with the Province of Ontario as the government representative for tourism in Northern Ontario, Graham played a pivotal role in spearheading numerous tourism initiatives. He adeptly represented government interests and was responsible for the assessment and allocation of millions of dollars in government funding, contributing significantly to the development of tourism projects throughout Ontario.

In 2011, as the team responsible for establishing RTO 13, which would later become known as Destination Northern Ontario, was forming, they sought the expertise of Graham Campbell. They requested an 18-month secondment from the Province of Ontario for Graham to assist in crafting a governance plan and establishing long-term strategic priorities for the new organization.

Throughout this period, Graham penned a concept paper as part of achieving his Economic Development Certification. This paper outlined essential strategies aimed at transforming tourism in Northern Ontario. Today, several of these strategies have been adopted and are considered fundamental to the ongoing success and growth of tourism in the region.

When COVID-19 travel restrictions led to a decline in American tourists, the resource-based tourism sector in Northern Ontario faced significant challenges. Commissioned by Destination Northern Ontario, Campbell Consulting prepared a strategy aimed at revitalizing the industry. Campbell Consulting undertook a detailed Socio-Economic Study related to the establishment of the Mushkegowuk National Marine Conservation Area. This study included an in-depth analysis of ten First Nation communities situated along the coastlines of James Bay and Hudson Bay within the Mushkegowuk Territory.

The focus was to assess the prospective social and economic effects of the conservation initiative, ensuring that the development would be beneficial and aligned with the interests of these local communities.

Campbell Consulting has had an instrumental contribution to the Rock on the River music festival’s success. With deep expertise in government grants, Graham has played a pivotal role in securing over $1.5 million in funding, greatly enhancing the festival’s sustainability and success.

His seamless collaboration with not-for-profit boards, keen understanding of growth objectives, and unwavering dedication to Rock on The River’s advancement have proven invaluable. Campbell Consulting’s partnership with the festival exemplifies a commitment to fostering growth and achieving lasting impact in the entertainment industry.

Representing the Province of Ontario, Graham was one of three tourism professionals to build and implement the Three-Year Tourism Development Program that oversaw the direction of provincial and federal funding towards tourism development initiatives to increase visitation to Northern Ontario. Tourism Excellence North is the hallmark program from those efforts.

Graham was instrumental in bringing together tourism stakeholders and communities to transform the snowmobile industry in Northeastern Ontario. His vision to build a destination that oozes snowmobiling throughout the region is alive and well.
